Life by Lens: a personal project

Life has been busy (is it ever not?). Since the start of 2013, my focus has been to (1) try to keep up with the everyday activities of three little girls and (2) work on becoming a healthier version of me (eating better and moving more). Those two tasks alone seem to fill up my every waking hour. The ‘free time’ that I found last year for photography has disappeared.

My hiatus from my big camera has made me realize that I miss capturing life with it. I still manage to take pictures with my on-me-all-the-time camera (iPhone), but that is not the same as being able to control the shots with my big camera. So, with that said, I am slowly making an effort to get back into photography on a personal level with the help of the Life by Lens* project.

My share for LbL this month is a single image taken last weekend just inside the church stoop before my brother-in-law’s wedding in New Orleans. Our girls were super excited to be flower girls. They did a great job during the ceremony (smiles, no tears, cooperation = success!). With their flower crowns and white dresses, I thought they looked like angelic princesses. I am pretty sure they felt like them too, if you couldn’t tell by the way they posed themselves.

*Life by Lens is a project I am participating in with a great group of photographers who I met on a photography web forum. Our goal each month is to document what is important to us — big or small. Our Life by Lens submissions will be published on the 20th of each month.

Lovely Little Ladies ♡ Frisco – Plano child & family photographer

I met the Hooper family for the first time at our sunrise family session in Plano last weekend. These two little girls are as sweet as can be. Little sister is a total daddy’s girl and big sister was a natural in front of the camera. We got some fantastic family shots, but I did not want to post one of those in case they want to use one for Christmas cards. I am looking forward to sharing the rest of their portraits with them. Thanks for a fun time Hoopers!

The Z family ♡ Keller – Colleyville child & family photographer

This family is another that we know from the girls’ preschool. My middle daughter Chelsea is pretty keen on Sam and says he is one of her best friends. I think the feeling may be mutual, after talking to Sam’s parents. I had a ball during our session and it reminded me how much I love doing portraits with preschoolers. They are such pure little beings and they will tell you exactly what is on their mind. These two did great and that earned them a trip to “Chunky Cheez-its” afterward. :)

Old Friends ♡ Prosper – Plano child & family photographer

This family has got to be one of the coolest I know. We have been friends since high school and they only live about an hour from us (we went to high school in Florida). We do not see them nearly as often as we should, but when we do it is like no time has passed and we pick up right where we left off. Their boys were beyond good for our session and made my job a breeze. I am guessing that they will be the best big brothers to a much anticipated baby sister (arriving after the holidays). Thank you McCools for a fantastically easy session.

Motherly Love ♡ Southlake – Coppell Family & Child Photographer

I have had the pleasure of knowing Morgan for nearly six years. We can relate to the triumphs and struggles of raising three kids because our kids are so close in age. Our oldests have the exact same birthday, our middles’ birthdays are less than two weeks apart and our youngests’ birthdays are about a month apart. Morgan is an awesome mom and I loved being able to capture her love for her kids.
